What happens on the road, stays on the road. Period.We changed our itinerary and rode the Independence Pass to the Continental Divide. Independence Pass was tight, twisty and an awesome blue sky. From there we rode down highway 24 through Buena Vista and went on to Poncha Springs and turned east to highway 50. We had a picnic lunch at Gunnison and headed along the Blue Mesa Reservoir. At Montrose we turn south to the town of Ouray.
Ouray is the Switzerland of the Americas and is named after a historic Indian chief.
We had dinner at the Outlaw restaurant and bar, where John Wayne's (supposedly) 'cowboy hat' is hung at the bar.One chic had her picture taken with John Wayne, and another chic rode helmet less down part of the Million Dollar Highway.
Today we got a lot of 'honks' from a train engineer, a Fedex truck, and a cute garbage truck guy. We encountered road construction on hwy 50, including one construction barrel in the middle of the road. We maneuvered the barrel,
but are still pondering how the cars behind us would navigate it.

Wow you guys have dodged the rain, good job! More time on the million dollar highway sounds like a good choice! Way to stay flexible, haha! Can't find the hotel blog you referred too but I'm sure it's amusing! Hopefully it will be out by then and won't affect your return but we have a huge fire in South Lake Tahoe that has Hwy 50 closed.Today will be a telling day on whether they get a handle on it or if winds whip it up. Stay tuned, you may need to go north to 80 with the crickets, sorry Jeanie :-)
I'm having so much fun reading your daily blogs! It's too bad your trip will be over soon! I wish I was with you all... Having lots of fun with the cool, or hot breezes blowing on me. I am a bicyclist so I can totally relate to your experiences plus I love to go and visit National Parks. I've been to a lot of the same places you all have! See you soon Maggy! You all take care!

Haven't heard from you guys for awhile, hope all is well. I'm guessing you're shorttimers so you'd rather ride than type OR because you're on your way home depression has set in and you can't bring yourself to type OR you've turned due EAST and don't want anybody to be able to track you down. HA HA Whatever you're up to be safe and I can understand any of the 3 reasons! The fire is contained, you're probably staying south thru 89 & 88 anyways. Can't wait to hear the stories & see the pics.
